Describe a time when you helped someone

I'd like to talk about the time I helped my neighbour, an elderly man who lives alone, when the area flooded last September. The rain had been falling all night, and by morning the water in our alley was knee-deep. I noticed his motorbike was still parked at street level, so I waded over, knocked, and spent the next hour helping him carry the bike and two boxes of books upstairs. The books turned out to be photo albums of his late wife — that was why he was so anxious. Helping him didn't cost me anything except a soaked pair of trousers, but he still greets me differently now, and honestly the whole street feels friendlier since that flood. It taught me that help is most valuable when it arrives before it's asked for — he would never have knocked on my door himself.
