Describe a beautiful place you have visited

I'll talk about Ma Pi Leng Pass, up in Ha Giang province, right up near the border with China in the far north of Vietnam. I went there about two years ago, during a long weekend in October, which turned out to be exactly the right time — the weather had just turned cool and the sky was clear for once. The pass cuts through a limestone plateau, and the road itself winds along the edge of a canyon with the Nho Que River running a strange turquoise colour far below. What struck me wasn't any single view but the scale of it — you'd round a bend on the motorbike and the whole valley would just open up, terraced fields clinging to slopes that looked almost too steep to farm. I found it beautiful partly because of that scale, but also because it felt slightly dangerous and untouched, which is rare these days — there weren't the usual queues of tourists you get at more accessible spots. We stopped at a viewpoint locals just call the 'happiness junction,' and I remember standing there thinking that photos genuinely don't do it justice, which sounds like a cliché until you're actually there and realise the colours and the depth of the canyon just don't translate to a screen. It's the kind of place that resets your sense of what a landscape can look like, and I still think about it whenever I'm somewhere flat and ordinary.
