Why do some people find it harder than others to adapt to change? A lot of it is practice. People who've grown up in genuinely unpredictable environments have dealt with change so often that it stops feeling like a threat. Those who've had very stable lives can be blindsided even by moderate disruption. There's also a cognitive piece — some people process uncertainty by waiting for it to resolve, which works poorly when the uncertainty doesn't. Is it better to plan carefully or to stay flexible? It depends on what you're doing. Creative work and early-stage projects don't benefit much from detailed plans — you don't have enough information yet, so you're planning confidently toward a wrong destination. In medicine, engineering, anything high-stakes and irreversible, careful planning prevents errors that improvisation would cause. The real skill is knowing which situation you're in. Does life today involve more sudden change than in the past? Technological and economic change is faster, yes. Career paths that seemed stable have collapsed in less than a generation. But people have always faced sudden personal change — illness, loss, displacement — and the emotional experience of that hasn't changed. What's genuinely new is that change now tends to be collective and visible, which makes it feel more intense than it might actually be. How well do schools prepare young people for dealing with change? Poorly, on the whole. Traditional schooling rewards knowing the right answer to a known question, which is almost the opposite of what change demands — reasoning through uncertainty with incomplete information. There are exceptions, but the core model in most countries still favours recall and compliance over adaptability. It's a real mismatch between what school trains and what adult life requires. Should companies invest in helping employees manage change? Yes, for practical reasons more than welfare ones. Most failed mergers, technology rollouts, and restructurings fail because of people problems rather than technical ones — the system works but people don't trust it or understand why the change is happening. Companies that explain the reason behind change, rather than just imposing it, consistently see better outcomes. The investment is usually small compared to what a failed change costs.

Common traps for Vietnamese speakers

Câu "Is it better to X or Y?" — câu trả lời đúng nhất thường là "it depends on what you're doing." Band 8 KHÔNG phải chọn một bên — là giải thích điều kiện. "The real skill is knowing which situation you're in" — câu kết kiểu này vừa đúc kết vừa thể hiện tư duy meta. Dùng 1-2 lần trong bài P3 là điểm cộng lớn.
