Describe a polite person you know

The person I'd describe as genuinely polite is an elderly neighbour of ours, Mrs. Hoa, who's lived two doors down from my parents for as long as I can remember. I've known her essentially my whole life, though we only really talk properly when I'm back visiting, usually just a few minutes at the gate or in the stairwell. What strikes me about her isn't the obvious stuff — she always says good morning, holds doors, that sort of baseline courtesy most people manage — it's something more specific, which is that she remembers small details about your life and asks about them without making it feel like an interrogation. She'll ask how my father's knee is doing, or whether I finished some project I mentioned in passing eight months earlier, and she does it in a way that never feels performative, just quietly attentive. She's also polite in a slightly old-fashioned sense — she'll never just barge into a conversation, she waits for a natural pause, and if she disagrees with something she does it so gently you almost don't notice you've been corrected. I think what makes me consider her properly polite, rather than just pleasant, is that none of it seems to cost her anything or require effort — it's not a performance she switches on for guests, it's just consistently how she treats everyone, including people who clearly have nothing to offer her in return.
