Describe a place you often went to as a child

As a child I used to go almost every Saturday morning to a riverside market with my grandmother, who lived a few streets away from us and more or less adopted me for weekends. We'd walk there together, just the two of us, while it was still fairly cool out, before the place properly filled up and got loud. Once we arrived, she'd do her actual shopping — vegetables, fish, whatever was fresh that week — and I'd mostly trail along beside her, occasionally allowed to pick out a snack, and I distinctly remember being fascinated by the sheer noise and chaos of it, vendors shouting prices, the smell of the river mixed with grilled food. It sounds like a small, unremarkable routine, and in some ways it was, but it's stayed with me more clearly than plenty of things that felt more significant at the time. I think it's because that market was really the first place I experienced the world slightly independently of my parents — small decisions, like which stall to stop at, felt like they were entirely mine to make. My grandmother passed away a few years ago, and the market itself has since been redeveloped into something far more sanitised, with proper stalls and tiled floors, so in a strange way that specific version of the place doesn't exist anywhere except in my memory now, which is probably part of why I hold onto it.
