Describe something you do to help the environment

I'll describe something fairly modest that I do to help the environment, which is composting food waste rather than throwing it in the regular bin, alongside cutting down on how much meat I eat. I do the composting daily, basically every time I cook, and I've cut back on meat to maybe twice a week rather than something I eat automatically with every meal. I started doing both around two years ago, after watching a fairly grim documentary about food waste that I half wish I hadn't seen, since it's the sort of thing that's hard to un-know once you've learned it. The composting part was oddly the easier habit to build — I got a small bin for the kitchen counter and it became routine almost immediately, whereas cutting back on meat took actual willpower for the first couple of months before it stopped feeling like a restriction and started feeling like how I just eat now. Whether any of it makes a genuine difference is a fair question, and I try to be honest with myself about it — on a planetary scale, one person's compost bin is obviously a rounding error. But I don't think that's really the right way to measure it; it's changed how I think about waste generally, made me notice it in ways I didn't before, and if that habit of noticing eventually spreads to how I make bigger decisions, then I'd say it's done more than the compost itself ever could.
