Describe a sportsperson you admire

The sportsperson I admire most is Roger Federer, the tennis player, who I started watching almost by chance as a teenager when a match happened to be on television one afternoon and I ended up watching the whole thing instead of doing whatever I was supposed to be doing. He played tennis, obviously, for over two decades at the very top level, and over his career won something in the region of twenty Grand Slam titles, along with holding the world number one ranking for a considerable stretch of time — though, if I'm honest, the statistics were never really what drew me to him. What I admire is more the manner of it — he made an extraordinarily difficult sport look almost unhurried, which I've come to understand took an enormous amount of discipline to achieve rather than being some natural gift, and he stayed visibly composed even when matches were going badly for him, which is not something most people, in any field, manage under that kind of pressure. He also seemed to handle losing, particularly later in his career, with a kind of grace that struck me as more impressive than the winning itself. I think what I actually admire, if I dig into it, isn't really the tennis at all — it's that combination of sustained excellence and apparent calm, which is something I notice I'm nowhere near as good at in far lower-stakes situations.
