Friends

Do you have many friends? Not many, but a few I've had a long time. I'd say three people I'd call at two in the morning, and then a wider group of maybe fifteen. How often do you see them? The close ones about once a week, usually over food. The wider group much less — a few times a year, which I feel slightly guilty about but not enough to change it. Do you prefer a large group or a few close friends? Small, clearly. In a big group I end up listening, which is fine, but I don't really know anyone better afterwards. Have you made new friends recently? Two, actually, both from a running group I joined last year — which surprised me, because I'd assumed making friends after twenty-five was basically over. It's just slower and it needs a repeated activity.
