Democracy requires more than holding regular elections. It depends on independent institutions, a free press, and the protection of minority rights. Without these foundations, elections alone may produce governments that lack genuine accountability to the people they represent.

International organisations such as the United Nations were established to promote cooperation between sovereign states and prevent large-scale conflicts. Critics argue these institutions lack enforcement power, while supporters maintain that even imperfect multilateral cooperation is preferable to resolving disputes through force alone.

Voter turnout in many established democracies has declined for decades, particularly among younger citizens. Political scientists attribute this trend to disillusionment with political parties, a perception that individual votes carry little weight, and the growing influence of social media that increases awareness without translating into active participation.
