Describe a film you would recommend

I'd recommend 'Parasite', the South Korean film directed by Bong Joon-ho that won Best Picture a few years back. It's about a poor family who, one by one, manage to worm their way into working for a wealthy household, pretending not to know each other, and the film slowly turns from a fairly funny con-artist story into something much darker and more uncomfortable about class and how differently people at different income levels experience the same city. I'd recommend it to pretty much anyone, honestly, but especially people who think they're a bit tired of typical Hollywood plots, because the way it keeps swerving genre — comedy, thriller, something closer to horror by the end — genuinely keeps you off balance in a way most films don't even attempt. The reason I'd recommend it so strongly is that it manages something quite rare, which is being deeply entertaining on a first watch, full of clever plotting and visual jokes, while also holding up to a second watch where you notice how carefully every detail, the house's architecture especially, was set up to say something about inequality without ever stating it outright. I watched it with a friend who doesn't usually like subtitled films, and even she was completely gripped, which I think says something about how well it's made rather than about the subject matter being unusually accessible.
