Describe a market you have visited

The market that comes to mind is Ba Chieu, a fairly old, slightly chaotic wet market not far from where my grandmother used to live, which I used to go to with her most Saturday mornings as a kid. It's the kind of place that sells absolutely everything — fresh herbs, fish still moving in plastic tubs, fabric, cheap plastic toys, all crammed into these narrow aisles where you're constantly stepping around someone's motorbike or a stack of crates. What it's actually like is loud and slightly overwhelming if you're not used to it — vendors calling out prices, the smell of fish sauce mixing with fried food from a stall near the entrance, my grandmother haggling over the price of morning glory as if it were a matter of principle. What I liked about it, and still do whenever I go back, is that it wasn't really about buying things efficiently the way a supermarket is; it was social. My grandmother knew half the vendors by name, they'd ask about the family, sometimes throw in an extra bunch of coriander for free. There's a kind of unhurried, personal rhythm to it that I don't think you get anywhere else in the city anymore, and it's probably why, even now that I mostly shop online, I still go back to that market occasionally, more out of nostalgia than necessity.
