The noisiest place I can think of is, unfortunately, my own apartment for about a year, when a new building went up directly next door. It started around seven every morning without fail — pile driving, mostly, this deep, repetitive thud that you could feel through the floor as much as hear, followed later in the day by drilling and the reversing beep of trucks that somehow always seemed to happen right when I was on a work call. I wasn't doing anything special during most of it, just trying to work from home like normal, which turned out to be almost impossible some days; I ended up taking calls from a coffee shop three streets away just to get some quiet. The noise affected me more than I expected it would, honestly — I'm not usually someone who's bothered by background sound, but this was relentless in a way that genuinely wore me down over time, and I noticed I was more irritable generally, snapping at small things that wouldn't normally bother me. I looked into moving out at one point, but the lease made that impractical, so I mostly just adapted — noise-cancelling headphones, earlier mornings so I could finish focused work before the drilling started. It's finished now, the building's occupied, and I still notice, almost with disbelief, how quiet the apartment actually is most days.
