Describe a time when you felt proud of a family member

The moment that comes to mind is my mother going back to study at forty-six. She had left school early to work, and it was something she had mentioned wanting to do for as long as I could remember, always in the past tense, as if the chance had gone. Then the hospital where she works announced they would pay part of the fees for a nursing qualification, and she applied without telling anyone until she had been accepted. What made me proud wasn't the certificate, in the end. It was watching her sit at the kitchen table at eleven at night, after a full shift, with a textbook she found genuinely difficult, and keep going for two years. She was easily the oldest in her cohort and she found the online parts of it painful. There was a period around the second set of exams when she nearly stopped, and I remember thinking that if she did, nobody could reasonably blame her. She didn't. At the small graduation ceremony she was more embarrassed than pleased, and kept saying it was nothing. It was not nothing.
