Describe a bicycle, motorbike or car trip you would like to go on

The trip I keep planning and never quite taking is riding a motorbike from Hà Giang around the northern loop, over four or five days. I've seen photographs of the Mã Pí Lèng pass for years — the road cut into the side of a cliff with the Nho Quế river a long way below — and it's the one place in the country I feel almost embarrassed not to have been. I'd want to do it slowly rather than as an endurance ride: two or three hours of riding a day, stopping whenever something looks worth stopping for, and staying in homestays rather than hotels so there's some chance of actually talking to people. I'd go with two friends, no more, because a bigger group turns everything into a negotiation. The reason I haven't gone yet is partly nerves — the roads are genuinely dangerous in the wet and I'm not a confident rider — and partly the usual excuse that there's never a free week. I've told myself it's happening next spring, which is roughly what I said last year.
