Housework

I do a fair share, though probably not as much as my mother would say I should. I live with my parents, so the big jobs are divided up: I'm in charge of washing up after dinner and hanging out the laundry, and on Sunday mornings I mop the floors while my father deals with the garden. The one chore I genuinely can't stand is cleaning the bathroom — it's damp, it takes ages, and it looks exactly the same two days later, which feels almost like a personal insult. As a child I got away with doing very little beyond tidying my own room, and looking back I think that was a mistake; I moved into a dormitory at eighteen with no idea how to cook rice properly. So yes, I do think children should have set chores, not as a punishment but simply because a household is a shared thing and everyone who lives in it should help keep it running. I'd just start them young, before they learn to argue about it.
