Model answer

Written by 8020 teachers. Do not memorise it — take the structure and the way ideas are developed, then speak about your own life.

Why do some people find it harder than others to make decisions? A lot of it is fear of regret rather than lack of information. People who decide quickly aren't better informed — they've usually accepted that some outcomes are unknowable, so waiting adds nothing. Those who struggle tend to believe there's a correct answer findable with more research, and for most real decisions there isn't. Is it better to decide quickly or to take a long time? It depends on reversibility, which I think is the useful test. If a decision can be undone cheaply, deciding fast is almost always better, because you learn from the actual outcome instead of speculating. For decisions that can't be reversed — moving country, a career change — slow is justified. Do you think major life changes are usually planned or unplanned? Unplanned, mostly, or at least not planned in the form they arrive. People plan a direction and then something external decides the timing. Looking back we describe it as a decision because that's a better story than admitting how much was circumstance.

Common traps for Vietnamese speakers

Đừng dùng "I think" ở đầu mọi câu. Ở Part 3 nên đa dạng: "a lot of it is...", "it depends on...", "looking back we...".
