Describe a piece of technology you use every day

I'll talk about my wireless earbuds, mainly because I genuinely can't remember the last day I didn't use them. I started using them about three years ago, when my old wired headphones finally gave up, and I only bought them because they were on sale — I wasn't expecting to become quite this dependent on them. I use them for pretty much everything: podcasts on the commute, phone calls I'd otherwise dread taking, music while I'm cooking, and increasingly just to signal to people at work that I'm concentrating and shouldn't be interrupted, even when nothing's actually playing. What I hadn't anticipated was how much they'd end up structuring my day rather than just filling it — my walk to the station has effectively become podcast time, and I notice I feel slightly off if I do that walk in silence now. If I imagine life without them, it's not dramatic, just quieter and probably a bit more boring, which sounds trivial until you realise how many small, in-between moments — waiting for a bus, standing in a queue — used to be filled with actual thought or just noticing things around you. I sometimes wonder whether I've traded a kind of idle daydreaming for constant low-level input, and I'm not entirely sure that's a good trade, even though I have no intention of giving them up. It's a small object that's quietly rearranged a lot of my habits.
